Overview

Finanseal operates the website https://www.finanseal.app/ and provides free online tools (including mortgage, credit card, personal loan, compound interest, car finance and self-employed tax). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you visit our site, use our tools, create an account, save work to history, or otherwise interact with us. By using the site, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Tool Processing and Privacy by Default

Most of our tools run entirely in your web browser. Calculations, conversions, and file edits are performed on your device where possible. We do not receive or store the files or inputs you enter unless you explicitly choose Save to history.

When you download a result from a file-based tool, the file is saved directly to your device with no upload to our servers. Some tools may download an on-device model or resource to your browser for local processing; your content is not sent to us or to a third-party AI service for that processing.

If you choose to save to history, file-based tools upload the original and edited files, and calculator tools store the inputs, summary, and key outputs as structured data. Saved history is kept for seven (7) days, then automatically deleted. History items are linked to your browser session by default and can be claimed to your account if you sign in.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide to Us

  • Account details: if you create an account, we collect your first name, last name, email address, and a hashed password. We may also store your cookie preferences and email verification status.
  • Contact and support enquiries: name, email address, optional phone number and subject, and the content of your message when you use our contact form.
  • Saved tool history (optional): if you choose to save to history, we receive and store the files and/or scenario data you submit, along with metadata about the tool used (for example crop dimensions, output format, or calculator inputs and results).

Information Collected Automatically

  • Technical and usage data: IP address, browser type, device information, operating system, pages visited, and how you interact with the site (via cookies and similar technologies, where permitted).
  • Session data: identifiers used to keep you signed in, remember your cookie preferences, and associate guest history with your browser session.
  • Security data: reCAPTCHA tokens and related signals when you submit forms or save to history, to help prevent abuse.

How We Use Your Information

We use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To provide our tools and website functionality.
  • To store and retrieve saved tool history when you choose that feature.
  • To manage your account, authenticate you, and link guest history to your account when you sign in.
  • To respond to contact enquiries and provide customer support.
  • To send essential service communications (for example, account verification or password reset emails).
  • To improve our website, analyse usage, and measure performance where you have accepted optional cookies.
  • To display advertising (including via Google AdSense and similar marketing networks) that helps keep our tools free, where you have accepted optional cookies.
  • To prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorised access, and to enforce our Terms and Conditions.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

Legal Basis for Processing

Under the UK GDPR, we rely on the following lawful bases:

  • Performance of a contract — to provide the tools and account features you request, including storing history when you choose to save.
  • Consent — for optional analytics and advertising cookies (including Google AdSense and similar marketing networks) and, where applicable, marketing communications. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests — to improve our services, prevent abuse, respond to enquiries, and maintain site security, balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligation — where we are required to retain or disclose data by law.

Sharing Your Information

We may share your personal data with:

  • Third-party service providers who assist us, such as hosting providers, email delivery services, analytics providers (where you have consented), advertising partners such as Google AdSense and similar marketing networks (where you have consented), and Google reCAPTCHA for bot protection on forms and history saves. All such providers are contractually required to keep your data secure and process it only on our instructions.
  • Law enforcement, regulators, or other authorities where we are legally required to do so.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties for marketing purposes. We do not use your uploaded files or saved scenarios for advertising, model training, or any purpose other than providing the history feature you requested.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Our site uses cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality (such as sessions and your cookie preference) and, where you accept them, optional analytics and advertising cookies (including Google AdSense and similar marketing networks). For full details, please see our Cookie Policy. You can manage your cookie preferences from our cookie notice banner, your account page (if signed in), or your browser settings.

Data Retention

We keep your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected:

  • Tool history: deleted automatically after seven (7) days.
  • Account data: retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards if you delete your account, unless a longer period is required by law.
  • Contact enquiries: retained as long as needed to resolve your enquiry and for our legitimate business records.
  • Analytics and advertising data: retained according to the retention settings of our analytics and advertising providers and your cookie preferences.

Your Rights

Under the UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to erasure — request deletion of your data, subject to legal obligations.
  • Right to restrict processing.
  • Right to data portability.
  • Right to object to processing — including for direct marketing.
  • Right to withdraw consent at any time where consent is the legal basis.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@finanseal.app. We will respond within one month.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk/.

International Transfers

We primarily process data within the UK and EEA. If any transfers occur outside these areas (for example, through third-party services such as Google reCAPTCHA), we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent protections.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. Saved history is stored on secure infrastructure and is accessible only to you (via your session or account) and to our systems as needed to provide the service. However, no internet transmission or storage is completely secure.

Children’s Privacy

Our site and services are not intended for individuals under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from someone under 13, we will take steps to delete it promptly.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
